European Communist and Labor Parties issue joint statement ahead of European Parliament elections in June

The European Parliament elections will be held next June. Before the elections, the Communist and Labor parties of European countries have met and issued a joint statement. Austrian Labor Party, Greek Communist Party, Irish Workers’ Party, New Netherlands Communist Party, Spanish Workers’ Communist Party, Swedish Communist Party, Swiss Communist Party, Union Communist of Ukraine, Communist Party of Turkey, Revolutionary Communist A joint statement was issued by the French Party and the Communist Front (Italy). The content of the report shows the problems faced by the workers, self-employed, farmers, women and youth in the sector and the economy and the neutrality of the government’s policies. The problems faced by pensioners and migrants are also highlighted. The statement describes the negative policies of the European Union (EU), the regressive tactics of the administration and the anti-people methods of the governments and parties that serve it, and describes the the painful questions of the people of Europe.

The statement calls on the people, who are constantly under attack by the forces of capital, to strengthen their struggle against the exploitative capitalist system and their rights. The statement assesses that the European Union is an international, imperial, economic, political and military union of monopolies, against the interests of the working class and other popular groups. The European Union is not created by the people or serves their interests. The capitalist class in the EU countries is an alliance created against the working class and the people of each country. It was never favorable to the people. The main functions of the EU are the accumulation of capital, the promotion of efforts to make the best use of the working class, imperialist wars and interventions in them. These produce hunger, poverty, inflation, refugees, oppression, and anti-communism. On the other hand, the European Parliament is damaged in corruption. Scams are common. In reality it indicates the reactionary character of a union of the forces of capital against the people.
Imperial wars and regional interventions are the result of increased competition between monopolies to increase their profits. The war between capitalist Ukraine and its allies (USA, NATO, EU) on one side and capitalist Russia and its allies on the other, which started in 2022 and is still going on, was created to control markets and natural resources. The statement accuses the EU of adopting a double standard at the same time by providing channels for energy and goods.
The same conditions can be seen in the inhumane imperialist intervention of Israel in Palestine with the support of the US, the EU and NATO. They aim to control strategic trade and energy corridors in the south-eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea. The statement describes all these as a nightmare for the people. The increase in the militarization of the Red Sea region by the European Union, defined as global strategies, is a great threat to the people. This has been published and condemned by the Community Workers’ Organizations. The imperialist wars and the interventions of the European Union and bourgeois governments have created the way to gather people, divide countries and increase the economic burden on the people. These activities also cause the greatest damage to the environment.

Under the guise of environmental protection, the European Union and governments are making more use of new digital technologies to the detriment of workers. Hourly work arrangements affect the physical fitness of the worker and cause accidents in the workplace. EU and government migration strategies, such as the abolition of employment rights and contracts and increased threats from employers, are also making workers suffer and increasing poverty. Prices and inflation are rising at a time when energy giants are getting richer. The Common Agricultural Policy implemented in the Union also threatens the survival of farmers and dairy farmers.
This has led to a higher cost of production to ensure profits from agro-food industry groups, traders, industrialists, energy monopolies, etc. Ultimately this will lead to tougher measures against workers and further attacks on labor and social security rights. Against this background, unemployment remains high. These anti-people measures – pro-capital measures and policies of the European Union are driving 9.5 million people into poverty and hundreds of thousands into debt, foreclosures and other crises. In such a context, there has been a coalition and a joint statement from the communist parties and workers with the aim of making the life problems that the people face an election issue. Along with the statement, the rights of the workers and other labor groups, youth, women and migrant communities were also presented.
