I had another serious conversation with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, during which I once again raised the question of the ceiling on Ukrainian aid. This was said by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev to the media in Brussels, within the framework of his participation in the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries.
Bulgaria has received a letter from the European Commission, in which it is proposed that the ceiling should become 280 thousand euros, while until now it was 250 thousand euros.
“The aid is planned to continue until March 31, 2024. In response, through the Ministry of Finance, we have expressed the position that there should be no ceiling.
Today I repeated this proposal of ours to European Commissioner Wojciechowski and reminded him that we have sent him a written opinion. For his part, he said that we are the only country in the EU that wants this state aid not to have a ceiling, and the regulation states otherwise.
We both agreed on November 22 to continue the conversation on the topic in an online format,” said the minister.
Minister Vatev also held a meeting with the agriculture ministers of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. Together they discussed the current imports from Ukraine. All ministers joined together to insist on the continuation of Ukrainian aid for the entire year 2024, since these are the countries that are actually the most damaged and have identical problems.
