The European Commission has raided the synthetic turf producer TenCate Grass in Nijverdal. The EC investigates possible violations of laws against cartels or other types of abuse of market power.

The CEO of TenCate Grass has confirmed the raid to the ANP news agency. He says the company is cooperating with the European Commission’s investigation. He also refrains from commenting.

The fact that raids take place does not automatically mean that the companies involved are also guilty, the EU’s executive board emphasizes.

The raid at TenCate is part of a broader investigation into possible cartel formation among producers of synthetic turf for sports fields. Companies enter into agreements with each other to reduce competition, and that is prohibited.

Raids were also carried out in other member states of the European Union. The EC did not disclose which companies in which countries had been raided.

The fine for violating the cartel rules can be up to 10 percent of annual turnover. Companies that report if they have violated the cartel rules and cooperate with the European Commission’s investigation can receive immunity or a substantial reduction of the fine.
