European Commission official frustrates Xbox fans with inconsiderate comment about Call of Duty

As stated above, the European Commission launches an in-depth investigation of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and a Commission official attracted a lot of unwanted attention on Twitter this week.

By entering the platform, Ricardo Cardoso 🇧🇷Deputy Head of DG Grow’s Interinstitutional and Extension Unit) claimed that the Commission was working to ensure Call of Duty was available on “other consoles (including my PlayStation).”

“The Commission is working to ensure you can still play Call of Duty on other consoles (including my PlayStation).”

As you can imagine, the “including my PlayStation” part of this message has been brought up by many people in the comments as potentially biased against the situation, which obviously isn’t a good idea.

Gamers like IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey and Windows Central’s Jez Corden have also commented on “making sure” Call of Duty stays on other consoles, noting that Xbox head Phil Spencer recently clarified that the franchise will remain on PlayStation yes potentially coming to Switch🇧🇷

this is what Executive Editor of IGN had to say in response, amassing over 2,000 likes in the process:

“Respectfully sir, I’m not sure if that’s clearer than the Xbox boss’s public statement on this matter less than two weeks ago. It will still be on ‘your’ PlayStation, don’t worry.”

Cardoso is definitely feeling the heat right now on Twitter, but he responded to the backlash by confirming that he’s “not involved in merger review” and that he doesn’t actually work in the merger department:

“To clarify: I don’t do merger review and I don’t even work in the merger department. As can be seen from my profile, my comments are personal and not a position taken by the Commission, whose decision will be taken on the basis of facts and law”.

So basically this was just an inconsiderate twitter comment from someone who wasn’t really involved in the investigation, so don’t take it too seriously! It seems like an innocent mistake and nothing more…
