European Commission Conducts Unannounced Raids on Construction Chemicals Industry

DJ EU searches companies in the construction chemicals industry

BRUSSELS (Dow Jones)–The European Commission is carrying out unannounced antitrust raids on companies in the construction chemicals industry in several member states. The Commission has concerns that the companies concerned may have violated EU antitrust rules, the EU authority announced.

The searches concern chemical additives for cement and chemical additives for concrete and mortar. These are ingredients that are added to change and improve their properties.

Unannounced inspections are a first step in the investigation if anti-competitive practices are suspected. The fact that the Commission carries out such inspections does not mean that the undertakings are engaging in anti-competitive behavior nor does it prejudge the outcome of the investigation.

Names of companies were not mentioned.
