European Commission announces procurements for accelerating development of innovative medical antidotes

The State Medicines Agency informs that the European Commission has announced procurements aimed at accelerate the development and availability of innovative medical antidotes.

This support is intended to promote the development and availability of the following medicinal products and medical devices:

vaccines against various bacterial infections; broad-spectrum antiviral agents for the treatment of respiratory tract infections; in drugs against viruses that cause hemorrhagic fever, etc. to promote the development and certification of a next-generation metagenomic sequencing (mNGS) device for near-patient diagnosis of infectious diseases and early detection of infectious outbreaks. This device should be able to identify any respiratory viral pathogen, including new and previously unknown viruses, providing clinicians with an easy-to-read result within hours, while being cost-competitive with current molecular diagnostics.

These procurements provide support for phase II clinical trials of drugs and for the development and certification of medical devices.

Total expected budget: 82 million euros.

All interested parties are invited to submit their applications by December 4, 2023 at 16:00 (CET). Procurement documents and application are possible e-Procurement (eTendering) portal.

The European Commission organizes these procurements within the framework of the EU4Health program. With a budget of 5.3 billion euros, this program is the fourth and largest health program of the EU. The EU4Health program goes beyond an ambitious response to the Covid-19 crisis to strengthen the resilience of European healthcare systems. This program provides funding to national responsible authorities, health organizations and other bodies through grants and public procurement, promoting health within Europe.

The European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) is responsible for the majority of the EU4Health budget and implements the program through tenders and procurements from 2021 to 2027.
