Romania is not the most corrupt country in the EU. This was stated in an interview with Euronews by the European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kioveshi, BTA reported.
“I have surveillance over 22 member states. The fact that there are no investigations in certain Member States does not mean that they are clean and that there is no corruption. The fact that there are cases of corruption that we are investigating in Romania does not mean that it is a corrupt country or that it is more corrupt than other countries,” said Laura Kiovesi.
She firmly denied running for the presidential election in 2024. “I had a two-day visit during my vacation. I don’t think it’s a problem if I go to a bookstore, church, or pastry shop in my free time. The choice is mine. I have said several times that I am not running. I haven’t changed my opinion”, emphasized Kyoveshi.
Asked why she is among Romanians’ preferences in polls when it comes to possible presidential candidates, Kiovesi stressed that she did not ask to participate in any poll. “There are probably people who can’t live without thinking about me,” Köveshi joked.
