European Championship: Czech striker Patrik Schick silences Scots with world goal | European Football Championship

sport">The beautiful (unofficial) national anthem became passionate The Flower of Scotland sung along by 12,000 fans at Hampden Park. It was Scotland’s first final tournament match since the 1998 World Cup.

sport">The Tartan Army is known for being fanatical and the world needed to know that. Supported by the spectators, the Scots went hunting for a goal in the initial phase. That didn’t work, despite an optical superiority. But the Czechs went into halftime with a lead. Schick headed in a nice cross in the 42nd minute: 0-1.

sport">After the break, a lot more happened immediately. Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall had to stretch twice, while on the other side Jack Hendry hit the bar. Not much later, Czech closing post Tomas Vaclik had an excellent reflex.

sport">But everything was dwarfed by what Schick did in the 53rd minute. The Czech Republic countered and the striker got the ball just before the halfway line. A few meters after the halfway line, he decided to give it a try: 0-2 over a bewildered Marshall. An absolute world goal at this European Championship.

sport">For the Scots the go-ahead to start accelerating again, but Vaclik was an excellent goalkeeper and defended the Czechs with all his might. It was therefore no longer profitable for Scotland. A false start for the Scots, who have to get results in ‘The Battle of Britain’ against England at Wembley on Friday.
