Trentino Itas ends the group stage of the 2023 CEV Champions League undefeated, conquering the field of the two-time European Champions in charge of Grupa Azoty Kedziezyn-Kozle in a comeback. This evening in Poland, the gialloblù team imposed a 3-2 draw on the home team, further legitimizing the first place finish mathematically conquered two weeks earlier in Roeselare, with one match to spare. The result allows Lorenzetti’s team to appear as the third absolute seed in the final draw, immediately behind Jastrzebski and Perugia; in the quarterfinals, scheduled between 8 and 15 March, she will challenge the winner of the Polish derby between Zawiercie and Kedzierzyn-Kozle (match of the round of 16 scheduled for February).
After having suffered the great impact on Grupa Azoty’s match in the first two partials, who started off with a thousand serve and attack with the entire opponent’s high ball trio unleashed, Kaziyski and his teammates were particularly good and proud in moving on, returning to play that practical and effective volleyball in all the fundamentals seen only five days earlier in Civitanova Marche. Michieletto (20 points with three blocks and an ace), Kaziyski (14) and a practically perfect Podrascanin (13 points with 91% in attack, two blocks and a point serve) sounded the charge and dragged the first teammates to the clear victory of the third set, then to the one in the sprint of the fourth (decided by a block from Alessandro on the only opportunity he had) and finally to the Trentino monologue in the tie break. An important test of character from all points of view and useful, on a mental level, also in view of the upcoming SuperLega commitments which for an abundant month will become the team’s only thought before a new trip to Poland.
Below is the scoresheet for the sixth round match of the 2023 CEV Champions League Pool D, played tonight at the Azoty Arena in Kedzierzyn-Kozle.
