The organizers of the European Car of the Year event have named 39 car models that will compete for the title of the best car of 2022.
The best of the best will be determined by a jury of experts represented by 60 car journalists from 23 countries. The seven finalists will be named on November 29, and the winner will be announced on February 16, 2022.
The long list included four BMWs: a Series 2 coupe, a Series 2 Active Tourer, a BMW i4 and a BMW iX, three Volkswagen: ID.4, a Caddy and a T7 Multivan and three Mercedes: a Class C, Citan and EQS.
American cars are represented by Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y, Japan Honda HR-V, Lexus NX, Nissan Qashqai, Subaru Outback, as well as Toyota Highlander and Yaris Cross, while Koreans Kia EV6, Hyundai Bayon and Ioniq 5. also two models from China: Lynk & Co 01 and Aiways U5.
Last year, the compact hatchback Toyota Yaris won the competition and was awarded 266 points by the jury. Second place went to Fiat 500 (240 points) and third to Cupra Formentor (239 points).
