AT yen is ranked first in the list of the best habitable cities in the world according to the annual index of the Economist Intelligence Unit, DPA reported.
In 2018 and 2019, the Austrian capital occupied the same position in the rankings, but last year it was estimated that the quality of life in European cities has declined significantly due to lockdowns and other restrictions related to COVID-19. That’s why Auckland, New Zealand, was in charge.

Since the beginning of this year, most of the world’s sanitary restrictions have been lifted and major cities in New Zealand, Australia and China fell again in the rankings. According to the Economist’s report now “well-vaccinated cities” dominate in Europe and Canada. Vienna is followed by Copenhagen, Zurich, Calgary, Vancouver and Geneva. The top ten is complemented by Frankfurt, Toronto, Amsterdam, Osaka and Melbourne.

Among the important factors in compiling the assessment is stability, which explains why Moscow and St. Petersburg are now ranked 15th and 13th, respectively. This year, Kyiv is not appreciated because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
At the bottom of the list are Damascus, followed by Lagos, Tripoli, Algeria and Karachi.
