Münster The first six bison have arrived on the site of the former ammunition station “Muna” near Münster-Breitefeld.

The first six European bison, also known as European bison, have been located on the site of the former ammunition station “Muna” near Münster-Breitefeld. The move-in of animals is part of a joint project by the local government, the Federal Real Estate Agency (BImA) and Deutsche Bahn.

Part of the site is intended to provide visitors with an insight into nature and the history of the place as a nature conservation information center and as a nature education experience center. This also includes the settlement of bison and wild horses as “active landscape carers”, according to a message from the project managers.

The former ammunition facility was used by the US Army in World War II and later, and since the Americans left the country in the 1990s, the 260-hectare site has been unused – with the result that uncontaminated animal and human habitats could develop Plant species. The first six bison are already roaming the grounds. Three of the animals come from a park in North Rhine-Westphalia, three from the Wisentgehege Springe near Hanover. The arrival of further bisons and wild horses is planned for early summer. However, it is still not possible for visitors to observe the animals. For security reasons, entering the Muna area is initially prohibited.

In addition, according to the message, the animals need time to get used to and should not be scared by onlookers.
