Europe wants to accelerate away from Russian gas: “Import two-thirds less gas from Russia by the end of this year”

“With the plan we present today, the EU can end its dependence on Russian gas,” said Frans Timmermans, Vice-President of the European Commission.

“By the end of this year we can replace 100 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia. That is two thirds of what we import from them,” says the Dutchman. “This will end our over-reliance and give us a lot more wiggle room. It’s hard, damn hard, but it’s possible.”
