It also requires health and social care workers to pay particular attention to high-risk groups of people such as the elderly and people with vulnerable health conditions.

“Significant work is being done across government to ensure the most vulnerable are protected during a heatwave,” Downing Street said in a statement BBCWednesday (13/7/2022).

Meanwhile, a similar phenomenon has also begun to be reported in China. The Bamboo Curtain State Authority on Wednesday issued a red heat wave warning in 84 cities across the country.

“The red alert means the temperature is expected to reach over 40C in the next 24 hours,” the China National Meteorological Agency said in a statement CNN International.

According to the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a heat wave is an unusual period of two or more days of hot weather. To be considered a heat wave, temperatures must be above the historical average for a given area.

This natural phenomenon itself has a destructive impact such as forest fires. In addition, heat waves also have the potential for death for residents in the area where the phenomenon occurs.
