Europe sees confidence in AstraZeneca vaccine falling

According to YouGov, the suspension of vaccination campaigns in several countries has had an impact on public opinion. “Not only have we seen a significant increase in the number of people who find the vaccine dangerous in the past two weeks, but AstraZeneca’s vaccine is also considered less safe than that of Pfizer and Moderna,” said data analyst Matt Smith of YouGov. “With a possible third wave of infections in Europe, authorities must question whether the current disputes over the AstraZeneca vaccine will hurt the vaccination campaign.”

In Germany (55 percent, +15 percentage points compared to a study in February) and France (61 percent, +18 percentage points), respondents indicated that the vaccine is more dangerous than safe. In Spain and Italy, 59 and 54 percent of the respondents respectively thought the vaccine was safe in February, now it is still 38 and 36 percent. In Sweden, more people (43 percent) consider the vaccine safe than unsafe (34 percent), the Danes are divided (twice 42 percent).

In the United Kingdom, the only country on the list that has not stopped vaccination with AstraZeneca, more than three-quarters (77 percent) of respondents have confidence in the vaccine. Still, the number of people who consider the vaccine safe has decreased by 4 percentage points. Confidence in Pfizer and Moderna vaccines has not diminished, the poll shows.
