/ world today news/ The second meeting of representatives of the ministries of agriculture of the EU countries and experts from the European Commission will take place on Friday on the issue of the Russian ban on the import of a number of food products from the 28.
The main topic of discussion will be the fruit and vegetable market. The European Commission’s proposals for support measures for this sector will be considered. The situation with other goods affected by the Russian counter-sanctions will also be discussed.
Such meetings will be weekly as long as the situation in the EU requires it. The next meeting will be on August 28.
At the beginning of August, Russia limited for one year the import of certain goods from countries that have imposed sanctions against it in connection with the situation in Ukraine – the USA, EU member states, Canada, Australia and Norway. In the list of restrictions are beef, pork, poultry, vegetables, fruits, cheese and dairy and other products. It was announced that Russia would be looking for new food suppliers instead of Western ones.
Russia’s import ban could lead to the loss of 130,000 jobs in the EU, including 23 million in Poland and 21,000 in Germany, Belgian newspaper Standaard said, citing data from ING bank.
