TERAMO – Europe is well if Africa is well. It is the paradigm that emerged from the third edition of One Health. For three days, Teramo was the scene of a great reflection, promoted by the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Abruzzo and Molise, which saw scientists, experts and national institutions dialogue on “Frontier Africa”.
The event conceived for the first time in 2022 saw the first year focus on the indissoluble link between well-being and nature, then in 2023 the Mediterranean was the heart of the insights. Now Africa, a continent that has seen the Teramo Institute directed by since 1985 Nicola D’Alterio engaged in his studies, as if it were a real laboratory.
“This third edition”, comments a Daily Virtues the director, taking stock of the event, “was even more important. The theme was very appropriate because it is on the agenda of all geopolitical tables, such as the G7, or the Mattei plan (Italy’s strategic diplomacy, development cooperation and investment project to strengthen and renew ties with the continent African, ndr)”.
“The ideas that emerged are very important and confirm the paradigm of our activity and that is how important it is to collaborate with Africa to help Africa, but also ourselves and how this continent is central to the balance of the entire planet” .
The three days which saw successive interventions by the Minister of University and Research were very rich Anna Maria Bernini, of the president of the Med-Or Foundation, Marco Minnitithe author and composer David Monacchithe American Heinrich Feldmann, Francesco Berlingieri of the European Commission, Sylvain Brisse e Giovanna Barba-Spaeth of the Pasteur Institute in Paris, the journalist and writer Giampaolo Musumeci just to name a few. “Through research, we are a support for Africa, and not an end in itself, but for the whole world. Studying infectious diseases today in Africa means studying them for tomorrow in the world.”
Having archived the third edition, the Izs of Teramo is already thinking about the fourth edition: “Before One Health, no one knew what the Institute did. We are strategic for the country and there is a need for events like these to make everyone understand how we are strategic”, concluded D’Alterio.
