Obertshausen celebrates Europe and Europe celebrates in Obertshausen. On Sunday, June 4th, it’s finally that time again: The Europe Festival takes place around the community center in Hausen and brings different cultures together.

It starts at 11 a.m. Culinary delicacies from all over the world and a diverse cultural program are on offer. The Karl Mayer Big Band will provide the right musical atmosphere at the start.

The official opening of the festival takes place at 1.30 p.m. In addition to District Administrator Oliver Quilling and Mayor Manuel Friedrich, representatives of the District Foreigners Advisory Board and the Obertshausen Foreigners Advisory Board also take part. Various dance groups from Greece, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Turkey and Germany will then perform.

The Europa-Union, the Europe Direct Relais Rhein-Main, the District Foreigners Advisory Board, the Obertshausen Foreigners Advisory Board and the Integration Office provide information at various stands about life and integration in Europe. The play and fun program comes again this year from the child and youth promotion in Obertshausen.

Mayor Manuel Friedrich emphasizes that especially in these special and difficult times, understanding, uniting and cooperation are the order of the day and the best way to set an example for a peaceful and free Europe. “It’s a good opportunity to meet people from other nations in a pleasant atmosphere. We are pleased that so many clubs are taking part this year and that we can put together a varied program. Encounters are the best way to overcome prejudices and discover common ground.”

For District Administrator Oliver Quilling, the European Festival is representative of the diversity and openness of the Offenbach district. Quilling: “We are an international circle. People from around 170 nations live in the 13 communities. In addition, the district as well as the cities and municipalities maintain a total of around 50 partnerships with other cities and regions around the world.” strength. The European Union cannot be reduced to a mere economic community, Oliver Quilling clarifies. Rather, it is “an indispensable guarantor of peace, freedom and prosperity in Europe.”

The organizers from the city of Obertshausen and the district of Offenbach agree: “It’s nice to welcome so many different and international guests to Obertshausen on one day and to celebrate peaceful coexistence with a good mix of music, culture and delicacies.”

A special feature this year is the visit of around 50 guests from Obertshausen’s twin town of Laakirchen (Austria) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the twinning with Obertshausen.
