For the second time, the event will take place at the Sparkasse Minden-Lübbecke, Königswall 2, in Minden, which once again made the forum possible together with the Altendorf Group. The guest speaker is the EU politician Günther H. Oettinger.
MORE ON THE TOPIC
Günther H. Oettinger, who is considered an excellent expert on Europe, was born in Stuttgart in 1953, studied law at the University of Tübingen after graduating from high school and then worked as a lawyer. From 1984 to 2010 he was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg.
In 2010, Oettinger moved to the European Commission
During his term as Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg from 2005 to 2010, he campaigned, among other things, for economic reforms and the expansion of renewable energies. In 2010, Oettinger moved to the European Commission and was EU Commissioner for Energy until 2014. From 2014 to 2016 he was the EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society and then as the EU Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources until 2019.
In these roles, he worked to promote digital transformation and ensure the EU’s financial stability. After leaving the European Commission, Oettinger worked as a consultant and continued to be involved in political and economic committees.
Europe is challenged like never before
Europe must position itself strategically between the newly forming power blocs and is challenged like never before. The future of Europe depends on both the preservation of its values and its economic strength. According to Günther H. Oettinger, Europe as a community of values - founded on principles such as democracy, the rule of law and human rights – is called upon more than ever to defend and promote these basic values.
In view of populist movements and increasing nationalism, the EU must represent its principles clearly and resolutely both externally and internally. At the same time, the economic integration of the EU should be further pushed forward. Oettinger calls for greater economic cooperation and reforms to ensure Europe’s competitiveness in the global economy. This included investments in digital infrastructure, innovation and education to strengthen the Union’s economic dynamism, as well as increased cooperation between Member States to address common challenges such as climate change, migration and security issues. The EU is a central platform for developing common solutions to global challenges.
