Europark Salzburg had to be evacuated

Shortly after 7 p.m All customers and employees had to leave the shopping center near Salzburg Airport immediately. Europark was evacuated by the police shortly before closing time.

The Salzburg executive also confirmed this to the KURIER. Spokesman Hans Wolfgruber named one “routine check” as a reason for this. The underground car park is also said to have been cleared, several media reported.

As the Salzburg State Police Directorate announced in a broadcast late in the evening, a dangerous threat had previously been made against a “shopping center in Salzburg-Taxham”.

Large area cordoned off

At around 7:30 p.m., the authorities cordoned off the area and searched it for suspicious objects. “This search was negative, which is why all barriers were lifted around 9:30 p.m.,” the police said.

Nothing is currently known about the background to the eviction. For tactical reasons, Wolfgruber did not want to explain in more detail whether it was a bomb threat – as was the case recently at train stations throughout Austria.
