May 29 was day 1 for Europa-Park to Corona – but also day 1 with Corona. The popular destination in Rust (D) near the Swiss border was finally able to start this season. However, in order for this to happen, the operators had to make a number of adjustments to the concept.

Over 50,000 visitors usually flock to the 95-hectare facility on a sunny day. Entrance is now limited to a maximum of 10,000 guests. That still hurts Europa-Park managing director Roland Mack (70). But he is happy that the anxious weeks of waiting and uncertainty are over. “There is light again at the end of the tunnel,” he says to BLICK.

«The children have been waiting for weeks»
The rush for tickets for the opening day was huge, it says at Europa-Park. For yesterday’s day, all entrances were sold in advance. When the gates opened at 9:00 in the morning there were only happy faces among those who could get a ticket. “Our children have been waiting for this moment for weeks,” says a mother who traveled from Stuttgart with her family.

Guests from France and Switzerland usually make up almost half of the visitors in Europa-Park. Because the borders to the neighboring countries only open again on June 15th, there are almost exclusively Germans on the stands and on the railways. You will feel the significantly reduced admission numbers. “I have never seen Europa-Park so empty,” says a teenager in line for the “Euro-Mir”, one of the main attractions in the park. After less than five minutes, she sits on the roller coaster with her colleagues. The queue would normally be significantly longer here.
The conclusion at the end of the first day after the long forced break is positive at Europa-Park. “The people behaved in an exemplary manner and were still able to enjoy the stay,” says spokeswoman Corina Zanger. “Now we are happy if visitors from Switzerland will come in two weeks.”
