As of today, it is already possible to bet on the first Euromillions Minimum Guaranteed Super Jackpot worth 130 million euros. Throughout this year, this super jackpot will be drawn even more twice.
This is one of the new Euromillions changes that take effect in the draw of February 4th and announced by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML) on January 21st, including a renewed bulletin.
What are the new EuroMillions rules?
First, the jackpot will increase by 10 million euros to 200 million euros.
Second, the maximum accumulated premium can reach 250 million euros. If the 200 million euro mark is reached, “it can be held for five consecutive draws without the first prize being awarded. But, if the 200 million jackpot comes out, in the next cycle the maximum value will increase to 210 million, and the same mechanism will be repeated, successively, in installments of 10 million, until reaching the maximum amount of 250 million ”.
The third novelty was the Minimum Guaranteed Super Jackpot, which will offer prizes worth 130 million euros three times a year.
To celebrate the new format, the 1st Minimum Guaranteed Super Jackpot of the year will take place on the 7th of February, in the amount of 130 million euros, “whose bets can be placed as of the 1st of February”.
According to SCMLP, the “game dynamic remains the same: the player still has to choose 5 numbers (from 1 to 50) and two lucky stars (from 1 to 12); the value per single bet remains at € 2.50 (€ 2.20 = 1 EUML bet + € 0.30 M1LHÃO bet); and the odds of winning are the same, that is, 1 in 13 ”.
Nine curiosities and facts about the EuroMillions:
1 – Euromihões was launched on February 13, 2004, in Spain, France and England. He arrived in Portugal, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg, on October 2 of the same year.
2 – The first draw took place in Portugal on October 8, 2004.
3- On September 24, 2016, a new exclusive game was launched for bets placed on the EuroMillions in Portugal: the M1LHÃO (the first draw of this game took place on September 30).
4 – This game has characteristics common to all countries: in the game formula (5/50 numbers + 2/12 stars), in the bet amount (€ 2.20) and in the prize categories.
5 – In Portugal, right from the beginning, between the years 2004 and 2005, it became the social game with the greatest spontaneous notoriety: 92% of the Portuguese adult population placed Euromilhões as the first reference for gambling.
6 – In 2018, EuroMillions represented 805 million euros of gross sales of social games.
7 – The results revert to Good Causes, being one of the main sources of financing for the State’s social policies, in areas such as health, social solidarity, sport or culture.
8 – On January 17, 2020, the 3rd largest first prize in Portugal, since the launch of the game, was awarded: around 100.8 million euros, in the district of Lisbon. This figure was only exceeded by the prizes awarded in October 2014 – 190 million euros in the district of Castelo Branco – and in November 2015 – around 163 million euros in the district of Coimbra.
9 – As of today, 70 EuroMillions first prizes were registered in Portugal.
