To steal the money from their targets, thugs sent fraudulent emails impersonating the FDJ.
An email named “Notification de gain”
Crooks send fake emails to their targets pretending they have won the jackpot Euromillions. In this email named “Notification de gain“, the scammers specified to their victims the explanation of obtaining the gain in an attachment marked with the logo Euromillions. They indicated that they were drawn at random using their email address, attached to a ticket number containing the winning numbers, according to CNews on the story of 20 Minutes.
To completely empty their bank account
The people trapped were asked to fill out a questionnaire that contains personal information such as their bank details to collect the sum supposedly won and pay certain transfer fees.
This approach, calledphishing“, aims to collect the victim’s bank details to completely empty their account.
The FDJ does not ask for any banking information
If a jackpot is won, the FDJ (Française des jeux) did not request any banking information or contact the winner, since the latter would have to present their winning ticket to pocket their jackpot.
On its website, it provided more details. “FDJ will only ask you for personal information in the context of managing your account or following a game operation carried out voluntarily by you.“, she noted.
