Euro U21: Slovenians are terribly confident, reports Jiří Jarošík

At the beginning of the tournament, the Slovenians lost 0: 3 to the defenders of gold from the Spaniards, whom they have not trusted in the youth categories for a long time. What did you say about their performance?

They wanted to show up, they played the first match at home, but I didn’t like it very much. They played from the block, got three goals and could then get another five. They had two gaps right at the bottom by the standards, if they scored, maybe it would look different. It was more open at 0: 2. They started playing, showed that they can combine. They tried, but it sucked. But they did not expect any big result in this match. They lose to the Spaniards in all categories. They focus mainly on us and Italy, these are more important matches for them.

From Celje, two defenders, Stojinovič and Zaletěl, who also belong to the support of the Slovenian twenty-one, entered the nomination for the championship. What are they like in your eyes?

I like Stoper Zaletel a lot. The modern defender, fast, hard, has a great pass, he can even from the first touch. In Celje, I put them together together in preparation. It looked good, but there were some problems in the league. Next to Zaletel, I then put on a more experienced player, so Stojinovič didn’t play that much anymore. But they’re both honest and nice guys.

Didn’t you knead them a bit before leaving for the tournament?

Due to our weaker league results and cool, there was no room for this. But we talked about the championship. I wished them all the best. I just said that when they play with the Czech Republic, I don’t wish them much. (smile)

I’m nervous, but players can’t feel nervous about me, says Karel Krejčí in front of Slovenia

In Celje you have other handy fighters and adepts for the jersey of the national team of twenty-one. For example, midfielder Maj Roric, were you surprised that he did not fight his way to the EURO?

I’m a little sorry. When I came in the winter and played my first friends, he sometimes made tactical mistakes. Then he said, and now he’s our best player in the long run. He plays medium backup, he worked in the youth of Inter Milan. Really great player, professional. I think that due to his current form, they should have taken him to the championship. But they said they had better players in that position. I also like others that I met in the Slovenian league.

Maybe the number one goalkeeper Vekič, who catches Bravo?

Yes, we played against him. He believed he was an important figure in the team. There are also others, such as Elšnik from Olimpije Ljubljana or Kolobarič from Domžale. They have a lot of players there who start abroad. I have a lot of guys in the team who worked at a young age in Italian clubs. A lot of players go through them, then come back and try to start a career here. Before the tournament, the Slovenians believed terribly and probably continue to believe, which is due to their nature. They just won’t say, look, we’re going there and we’ll see. They are southern nations, either they are doing very well or they are not.

After winning the title, several supports left Celje, the team was significantly rejuvenated and at the moment you are mainly trying to avoid a playoff. How do you work in the club?

It’s a big test for me. We had great preparation. At a training camp in Turkey, they played against quality opponents. Everything went smoothly, and the management was excited about the performance. I thought we would transfer them to the league, but it’s about something completely different. Many young boys couldn’t stand it. With the coaching staff, which I have excellent, I do my best to kick it. I thought we would fight for Europe, but for now we can forget about it. We still have a chance to go to her despite the victory in the Slovenian Cup, where we advanced to the quarterfinals. We’ll see.

What do you struggle with the most on the Slovenian mission?

With the mentality of the players, because they are not used to working hard at all. Overall, there are a lot of skillful boys in the league, with a ball, technically equipped, but they don’t want much in the tactics and team concept. I have Slovenians and Croats in my staff … They can play great, train, but they can’t do it on the second, third day … I’m used to the fact that when I do something, it’s full and I want the same from the players. I struggle the most, convincing them to do the same. That is the only way to succeed. It’s hard with them. When I play, everything is good, if not, everything is just bad. And I can’t imagine going to train in Serbia, for example, it must be completely insane.

Win! We don’t care about anything else, the captain of the twenty-one reports before the turning point

What is the character in the cabin?

When I compare it with Ústí nad Labem, where I trained, I have more and better players here. But after one, second, third unsuccessful match, they are always looking for mistakes around them, and not within themselves. When I raised my voice in Ústí, everyone grabbed the snout and the next match they worked and rubbed. Honza Peterka has leveled it on the field and in the cabin, they don’t have a leader here and they do a little bit of what they want.

Lawn in Celje? Stone! Sadílek delights. Slovenians will try to scalp a third time

You are also burdened by productivity. You will get enough for goals …

Agreement. We won in Maribor, we played other good matches, but we couldn’t turn many of them into a win and score a goal. For example, Brave and I played incredible football at home for 75 minutes, but after two individual mistakes, they finally lost 2: 3. Just a young team. We play well, then we get a stupid goal, which we put up with. Last year, the two best shooters left, one scored twenty-five goals, the other fifteen, which is very familiar.
