German footballers Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels returned to the national team after two years. Coach Joachim Löw included them in the preliminary nomination for EURO 2020.
Both, together with Jerome Boateng, dropped out of the national team in 2019 as part of a generational change. However, the Germans did not give adequate performances without experienced players, the highlight was the loss in the League of Nations on the soil of Spain 0: 6.
Müller’s return has been talked about for a long time, the 31-year-old striker was in great shape and helped Bayern to the league title with 11 goals and 18 assists this season. Thirty-two-year-old Hummels, on the other hand, is one of the mainstays of Dortmund’s defense.
“We are 100% convinced of our decision, at the moment it was right. They will bring experience to the team, especially in difficult situations, “ he said Löw according to the dpa agency. The surprise in the team is the defender of Freiburg Christian Günter, who has played only one national team duel so far. “He has made great progress in performance and has improved in all directions,” justified his inclusion by Löw.
On the other hand, Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is not in the team, the trio Manuel Neuer (Bayern), Bernd Leno (Arsenal) and Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt) were given priority. The definitive list must be reported to UEFA by 1 June. The championship will start on June 11, the Germans will start on June 15 against the reigning world champions French.
