The English asked for a foul at the outset and seemed to surprise the Danes with initial pressure. However, he did not come and the game was even. With 15 minutes played, Kalvin Phillips of Höjbjerg nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. He subsequently played badly, but the Danes did not punish this mistake. Ten minutes later, Damsgaard fired from the penalty area, but his technical attempt narrowly missed the goal. After 30 minutes, the home side managed to get a 1 – 0 lead as Pickford flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. Eight minutes later, Sterling could equalize after Kane’s pass, but the English striker only hit the ball into Schmeichel. In a few seconds, Kane found Saku with a perfect pass, who sent Sterling in front of the center’s goal and the ball was thrusted into his own goal by the Danish captain Kjaer.
Dolberg had the first chance in the second half, his hard shot was sent by the English goalkeeper. The English team responded to the 55th minute when, after Maehle’s foul on Kanea, he centered Mount, he found Maguire well, but the famous intervention was performed by Schmeichel and pushed the ball to the side. From about the 70th minute, the English had significantly more of the game. The Danes pushed for their own half, but they lacked more creativity and so the match went into overtime.
At first Kane ended dangerously in it, Schmeichel only started his attempt in front of him, but none of the English got to the finish line. After another corner kick, the Danes came under pressure, but the endings of both Grealish and Sterling were not accurate. In the 102th minute, the decisive action of the match came. Maehle fouled Sterling in the penalty area, the referee Makkelie immediately pointed to the white point, the situation was still verified by VAR. Although Kane did not beat Schmeichel on the first try, he was no longer mistaken in the finish. The English will play on Sunday for the first time in history in the final of the continental championship.
