At Jazz de mars there is obviously jazz. But traditional proponents of the style will be shaken a bit by more modern, different-sounding artists who draw their influences from other sources. Here’s an overview of programming by genre…
What do the upcoming Eure-et-Loir festivals have in store for you in 2023?
1/ Jazz
There has to be, of course, and there will be. Some concerts will defend the vintage style, such as the professors of the Chartres conservatory who will offer a tribute to the legendary Blue Note label (March 17 in Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre), or Stéphanie Lemoine (March 10 in Chartres), the trio of Thomas Varret (March 31 in Chartres) or finally Damien Groleau, March 24 in Jouy.
We know of at least one group scheduled at Luisant’s L’Paille à sonique festival!
The Swingin’ Affair quartet will also offer a journey through time on March 24 in Brou.
Veteran Henri Texier, heir to the roaring twenties of free jazz, will present his more peaceful style on March 17 in Mainvilliers. The next day, saxophonist Samy Thiébault will mix jazz and Caribbean music.
2/ The soul
This African-American style, born from the fusion of blues, jazz and gospel, will be strongly represented during the festival. On March 11 in Gommerville, Maë Defays will present her style at the crossroads between the respect due to the ancient and modernity.

The atmosphere will be more funky on March 23 in Luisant, with the arrival of Sly Johnson and his incisive hip-hop influences.
In a mood of permanent hybridization, Anthony Joseph will offer his Afro Soul experience on March 31st in Vernouillet.
Another great festival headliner: organist Delvon Lamarr and his groovy-sounding trio. They will come to play on April 1st in Lèves.
Finally, the soulman from Clermont-Ferrand, Thomas Kahn, will come to play on April 7 in Mainvilliers.
3/ Music of the world
In this somewhat all-encompassing category in which we put all non-Western music, we find for example the artist who will open the festival, Mario Canonge. The pianist shakes and modernizes the Caribbean style by comparing it to jazz. To be discovered on March 4 in Courville-sur-Eure.
In Chartres, the Wampas electrify the L’Paille à sons festival
A little later, on March 11 in La Loupe, the Zakouska quartet is made up of festival loyalists, having already come in 2018.
Their style, free and detached, is inspired by Mediterranean music. Get ready for a sizzling concert, featuring violin, Cretan lyre, percussion and accordion.
At the Néron, on March 19, the outsized trio Seïmani will present their particular aesthetics.
4/ The countryside
We often imagine that Western style is very far from jazz. Not much, if you listen to Elegant Tramp and his music inherited from the greats of the American West. Get ready for a Johnny Cash or Roy Orbison vibe on March 12 in Chartres!
