Eugen Sleiter: “Corona cases are increasing”

Whether on the bus or in the office: you can hear it everywhere: coughing, runny nose, hoarseness. The family doctors have their hands full as sick leave is piling up in companies. The damp and cool autumn weather is not only causing problems for agriculture during the harvest season, it is also causing the number of respiratory diseases to skyrocket.

Some people ask themselves: Is this already an early flu wave? And what about Covid infections? Should you take a corona test, wear a mask or definitely stay at home? And what about vaccinations? In Rai Südtirol’s morning conversation, family doctor and medical officer Eugen Sleiter answered these questions.

Very contagious Corona variant

Elderly people and people at risk of health should definitely get vaccinated against Covid and flu, recommends Eugen Sleiter. A very contagious corona variant, a mix of omicron viruses, is currently in circulation. Symptoms include high fever, flu-like symptoms, sore throat, runny nose.

According to Sleiter, tests from the pharmacy can detect this Covid variant well. And anyone who suspects that they are infected with Corona should wear a mask, recommends Sleiter.

Behavior like four years ago

Anyone who is actually sick with Corona should definitely stay at home, says Sleiter, “even if there are no longer any restrictive regulations”. You should protect the environment and behave like you did four years ago.

Sleiter confirms that there are currently many corona cases across all population groups. He offers corona tests in his practice. But that’s not the case everywhere.

In the morning conversation, Eugen Sleiter also discussed flu vaccinations.
