Erwin Keller from Euenheim died on Friday, March 12th. Keller was born on December 24, 1942 in Wrzburg. In Euenheim he was involved in a variety of ways, including as a local councilor from 1990 to 2008. During this time, he also served as third mayor for six years.
Keller was honorary chairman of the choral society “Liederkranz” Euenheim. Before that he was chairman of the association for 21 years. During his tenure, the former men’s choir merged with the neighboring club from Aschfeld, opened up to women and became a mixed choir. Erwin Keller was a member of the local sports club for over 50 years, for which he received an award. He was also involved in Mardi Gras, once even assuming the office of chairman at short notice.
A secret only became known after Erwin Keller’s death. 15 years ago a cross was inaugurated on the road between Euenheim and Karlstadt. Even then there were rumors that the cross had been donated. Mayor Achim Hfling has now confirmed that the former church caretaker Keller had donated it and paid off it over several months. Now a plaque is attached to the cross that indicates the donor.
In his funeral address, Hfling praised the deceased’s humor and sense of duty as well as his generosity, love of his homeland and credibility: “For many years Erwin Keller has been very committed to the interests of the community of Euenheim and the well-being of our citizens. We will honor him in his memory. “
