FLORIDA: The Euclid telescope launched into space on Saturday to unravel the mysteries of dark energy and dark matter, the universe’s greatest mysteries. The mission lifted off from the Cape Canaveral Space Station in Florida, USA at 11.12 am local time. The trip was on SpaceX’s Falcon 9.
The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Euclid is the first mission to investigate dark matter in the world. 4.7 This telescope is seven meters high and three meters in diameter.
Euclid will join NASA’s James Webb Telescope after a month-long spacewalk. James Webb is 15 lakh kilometers from Earth.
From here, Euclid would make the largest diagram of the universe. This universe will include 200 crore galaxies. Scientists hope that the images captured by Euclid will shed more light on the 1.38 billion-year-old history of the universe. About 70 percent of the universe is thought to be dark energy. The unknown force responsible for the expansion of the universe is called this.
25 percent of the universe is dark matter. They do not absorb or reflect electromagnetic waves like normal matter. That is why it is difficult to find them.
The mission was named after the Greek mathematician Euclid who lived around 300 BC. This is because the geometry of the universe is related to dark matter and dark energy. Euclid is considered the father of geometry.
