EU wants to ban three more Russian broadcasters after Sputnik and RT – IT Pro – News

When you block the propaganda, you are basically saying “I don’t trust my people to draw the correct conclusions”. Probably right for a part of the population, people are often stupid and misinformed, but that doesn’t matter for a while.

It is not so much confidence as knowing how the human psyche knows. Intelligence has very little influence on the extent to which people can be influenced by propaganda, because the human psyche is full of cognitive biases, as also described by Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman in his book Thinking, Fast and Slow.

Because what qualifies the government, including people and even part of the population, to decide which information is or is not propaganda?

This is also very difficult. But if we can’t even say that Russia with its clearly proven disinformation campaign, which has been fully mapped out how and in what way this works, is negative propaganda, then we can’t get anywhere. There is no clearer example of propaganda and the destabilizing effect on the world (and their own people) than what Russia has done in recent decades.

And more importantly, how do you convince the dumb public that you don’t trust that they are stupid and can’t be trusted, but you and your team are?

Because our media has clear and verifiable ethical code for journalism has. Reporters without Borders shows each year which countries have independent media. They also show, again, how bad things are with Russia.

We were all equal in a democracy, weren’t we? However?

So are we. Everyone has cognitive biases and is prone to misinformation and misinformation.

And how are we going to explain the difference between us and regimes like China and Russia?

Then I would point you again to independent, global organizations like Reporters without Borders.

Are we not thereby confirming that the reasoning and method of those countries are correct, and that we only disagree about the premise, namely who exactly is the lying deceitful “enemy of the people”?

No, because reporting from Ukraine is often done by war journalists, who are in the field and report what is happening. Media agencies such as Associated Press and Reuters form the basis for almost all reporting we get about the world and are the most objective and neutral form of journalism we know. Other media agencies, such as the NRC or Fox News in America, then give it their own twist and provide additional context. But the reporting itself is objective and audited.

That’s the complete opposite of what happened in Russia.

After all, we are demonstrably doing the opposite of what we say we stand for

So, as I hopefully have clearly shown, we don’t.
