The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the EU calls on Russia to “immediately” release Alexei Navalny.
Borrell’s corresponding statement published on the website of the European External Action Service.
“The EU reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional release of Navalny, as well as all citizens and journalists detained for exercising their rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of speech,” the statement said.
February 2 Simonovsky Court of Moscow replaced the suspended sentence for Navalny for real.
After that Germany, UK and USA called for the release of Navalny… French President Emmanuel Macron also called for Navalny’s release.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to these statements, noted that Moscow urges not to interfere in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saidthat hysteria is going off scale in the West in connection with the situation with Navalny. He also noted that media coverage of demonstrations in Russia and in the West suffers from obvious double standards.
