EU to lift entry freeze for 14 countries tomorrow

The majority of EU countries have spoken in favor of lifting the entry bans imposed on the corona pandemic for 14 third countries. As the AFP news agency learned on Tuesday from EU circles, the necessary qualified majority was reached before the end of a written approval process.

Accordingly, there were still entry bans for countries with high infection rates such as the USA, Brazil and Russia. Due to the worldwide spread of the corona virus, the EU decided in March to make visits to the EU not absolutely necessary to prohibit entry. The EU countries now advocated lifting the restrictions for the following 14 countries: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.

The EU countries also put China on the list. For China, however, an additional condition is that the country ends its entry freeze for EU citizens. Entry bans remained in place for countries with high infection rates such as the USA, Brazil and Russia.
