European Union immediately discuss the membership application Ukraine in the midst of the invasion being carried out Russia.
“We will discuss Ukraine’s membership application in the next few days,” European Council President Charles Michel said on his official Twitter account @eucopresidentMonday (7/3).
Michel said the European Union stood by Ukraine in an effort to alleviate the humanitarian suffering caused by Russian aggression and ensure nuclear security.
“The EU’s unprecedented solidarity, friendship and assistance to Ukraine is unwavering,” he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also tweeted about the contents of the phone conversation with Michel today.
“Talk about threats to nuclear facilities, shelling of civilian and critical infrastructure. We have to stop this. Raise the issue of Ukraine’s membership in the EU. The Ukrainian people deserve this. Stop Russia,” he tweeted @ZelenskyyUa.
Previously, Zelensky asked the European Union to immediately grant membership through a special channel to his country amid the ongoing invasion by Russia.
“Our goal is to be with all Europeans and, most importantly, to be equal. I believe it is fair. I believe we deserve it,” he said in a short video on social media, Monday (28/2).
Ukraine is not currently a member of the European Union, although since 2014 it has been discussed and is considered one of the EU’s important trading partners. Geographically, Ukraine is bordered by four EU members, namely Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
