EU sanctions for Russia: 200 new names on the list

EU expands sanctions against Russia

Restrictions were introduced, in particular, against four banks – VTB, Novikombank, Sovcombank and Otkritie Bank – and another 14 companies.

The fifth package of EU sanctions against Russia, imposed for its invasion of Ukraine, includes 217 individuals and 18 legal entities. Their names and titles appear in the regulations published in the Official Journal of the EU on Friday 8 April.

“The black list includes high-ranking Kremlin officials, businessmen – Moshe Kantor, Boris Rotenberg and Oleg Deripaska, other prominent businessmen working in key sectors of the economy, such as energy, finance, media, defense and military industries, as well as supporters of disinformation, manipulation of information, systematic dissemination of false information by the Kremlin about the war in Ukraine,” the document says.

Thus, two daughters of the Russian president, Maria Vladimirovna Vorontsova and Ekaterina Vladimirovna Tikhonova, fell under the restrictions of Brussels.

Further on the list are the so-called “ministers” and members of the “People’s Council” of the “L/DPR”, head of Sberbank German Gref, businessman Said Kerimov, general director and co-owner of PJSC Surgutneftegaz Vladimir Bogdanov, representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense Major General Igor Konashenkov and others.

Sanctions have also been imposed on heads of major Russian media outlets. Among them are VGTRK General Director Oleg Dobrodeev, Moskovsky Komsomolets Editor-in-Chief Pavel Gusev, and TASS General Director Sergei Mikhailov.

As for legal entities, restrictions were imposed on four banks – VTB, Novikombank, Sovcombank and Otkritie Bank – and another 14 military-industrial, machine-building, shipbuilding and transport companies.

In general, the EU sanctions list for Russia includes 1,091 individuals and 80 organizations.

“Assets of individuals included in the list are subject to a freeze, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing funds to them. Individuals are additionally subject to a travel ban that prevents them from entering or transiting EU territories,” the community stressed.

As reported, in Russia, the introduction of new sanctions compared with an act of international aggressionwhich allegedly gives Moscow the right to “individual and collective defense.”
