EU questioned 10,000 children and young people about their health and future

One in five children (including young people in the sense of the Children’s Rights Convention) grows up unhappy and is worried about the future. The pandemic has increased stress.

Twenty percent of children (one in five) do not always have enough to eat, with children of asylum seekers and children with parents who are not working report even higher rates. Minimum changes needed: EU Member States should ensure that every child has access to healthy, affordable food in early care and school and, where appropriate, provide non-stigmatizing financial support to families so that they can provide children with nutritious meals.

Four out of five 17-year-olds think that the education offered does not prepare them well for their future. A third of 11 to 17 year olds in this online survey would like more arts subjects in school. Many suffer from marginalization and discrimination. In a nutshell, this is one of the results of a large survey by the EU Commission together with five children’s organizations among 10,000 children and young people between 11 and 17 years of age.

For the first time, so many young people were told about their health and their (future) wishes from the European Union – together with UNICEF, ChildFund Alliance, Eurochild, Save The Children and World Vision. This resulted in the report “Our Europe. Our rights. Our future ”, which will be presented on Tuesday.
