Brexit: John Redwood says he hopes both UK and EU ‘prosper’
Conservative MPs David Jones and John Redwood have said the results show that UK consumers were willing to vote with their wallets to teach the bloc a lesson. The online poll was conducted by the pro-Brexit think tank Facts4EU on its website between May 31 and noon today, with 1,412 people voting.
Respondents were asked whether the EU’s approach to the UK since Brexit had led them not to buy products from countries that are members of the EU, and the results were emphatic.
In all, 30.7 percent promised not to buy any of these items, with 48.8 percent much less likely to do so and another 15.7 percent saying they were somewhat less likely to do so, adding up to 94, 8 percent.
Another two percent said they had not altered their shopping habits, while only 2.3 percent said they were more likely to buy EU products since Brexit.
Interestingly, however, European countries remain popular vacation destinations in the Facts4EU survey, with 68 percent of those expressing their preference opting for EU27 nations as their first choice.

Jones, Vice Chairman of the European Research Group (ERG) and MP for Clwyd West, told Express.co.uk: “The survey results clearly show that while the British have no ill will towards EU citizens, Member States (most still consider Europe their preferred holiday destination), they have been alienated by the arrogance and intimidation attempts of the European Commission during the Brexit negotiations and ever since.
“Most UK citizens would now prefer to buy UK or Commonwealth produced goods or third country goods. That is certainly a major loss for the EU, given the size and wealth of the UK economy, but it is also a boost for domestic producers, who now clearly have the goodwill of millions of UK consumers.
“The move away from purchasing EU products will also be an important asset in our trade negotiations with other countries around the world.”
For too long, UK consumers had “been prisoners of the Customs Union,” Jones said.

He added: “They have been practically forced to buy from EU manufacturers and have been denied a choice globally due to high EU tariff barriers.
“Brexit means that it is now a thing of the past, and the British are obviously happy about it.”
John Redwood, MP from Wokingham and, like Mr Jones, member of the ERG, said: “Many people have been discouraged from buying EU goods and services due to the intimidation approach of the EU Commission.
“His unreasonable approach to fisheries, Northern Ireland and border controls in general has made people want to buy UK or world goods.

“Many countries want to do more business with us and welcome the opportunity to remove old EU barriers to our trade with them, just when the EU is damaging its own business by deliberately making it difficult to trade with us.”
Martin Daubney, a former Brexit Party MEP, described the poll’s results as “very encouraging.”
He explained: “The British are voting with their wallets, and that power of the people is fantastic news for British farmers and manufacturers.
“Both Brexit and the pandemic have emphasized that the EU treats the UK with utter contempt, so it is no wonder that British gamblers are telling them to fill their products at their meetings.”
Since buying local produce inevitably reduced the UK’s carbon footprint, it was also good for the environment, said Daubney, a former editor at Loaded magazine.

He said: “Why transport products from abroad when we can eat locally and seasonally?
“However, pro-EU climate fanatics are strangely silent on this obvious win for our carbon footprint.
That’s because these clowns view British products with disdain. Watch how Twitter grabbed its pearls over the ‘intimidating’ Union flags on packets of Morrison butter and M&S beer bottle caps.
“But these Facts4EU figures don’t lie: Brits want British goods, and I would encourage supermarkets to make their aisles look like a Platinum Jubilee contest to capitalize on this wave of national pride.”
Mr Daubney added: “Critics may see this as ‘proof’ that we are ‘little Englishmen’, but it is actually a direct reaction to the EU’s disgusting treatment of the UK not only during the Brexit negotiations, but also during the pandemic, when Brussels blocked vaccines to the UK and broke Article 16.

Former Conservative MEP David Campbell-Bannerman, who was also UKIP Deputy Leader from 2006 to 2010, agreed, saying: behaving the EU; And this survey shows that they are not impressed.
“The British are slow to grow; but once resurrected they are formidable. Now they are disgusted with the hostile and resentful way the EU has taken to try to punish the UK for Brexit. “
Mr. Campbell-Bannerman said: “Upsetting your number 1 EU export market, which is us, comes at a high cost.
“It is now clear that the British are quietly but steadily moving away from EU products, while retaining love and affection for individual European nations.”
