The deputies in the European Parliament want to cancel the time change. Already many years ago, Brussels promised to end the regular change of time from winter to summer and vice versa. 66 members of the European Parliament sent a request to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to finally fulfill this promise, the German newspaper reports BILD.
“Studies show that changes in the weather negatively affect sleep patterns, increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes and can lead to an increase in the number of road accidents. [Докато] the calculation of energy savings was completely unjustified,” the MPs’ letter said.
A survey conducted in 2018 showed that 84% of EU citizens feel tired of the time change. The European Parliament voted in favor of the repeal, and then-EC President Jean-Claude Juncker vowed to implement that decision. When Ursula von der Leyen succeeded Juncker in December 2019, she inherited that promise. The pandemic and the sluggishness of bureaucrats at the level of national governments prevented this from happening. Now they remembered the time change again.
