“Broadband is lagging behind”
Sagartz sees an “enormous need to catch up” with the expansion of broadband internet: “One fifth of the Burgenland businesses are very dissatisfied with the existing internet connection, especially in the Güssing and Jennersdorf districts. A lack of infrastructure creates unequal opportunities for companies and the entire region. While cellular networks are comparatively well developed, broadband internet is lagging seriously behind. We are at the bottom of Europe. Our neighboring countries, the Czech Republic and Hungary, have higher internet speeds, ”criticized the MEP. “How important the existing infrastructure and also the possibility of home office is, was not just shown by the crisis.”
“Take on a pioneering role”
And Sagartz points out the aim of the European Commission to make Europe climate neutral by 2050: “Especially in Burgenland we have the highest CO2 emissions per capita in Austria because many depend on the car.” In addition to the expansion of public transport he has an even stronger focus on renewable energies. “Burgenland can play a pioneering role in Europe here.
