What is new compared to the previous emission standards is that limit values will be introduced for particles emitted by tire wear and brake particles, especially in electric vehicles. For the first time, there are also regulations for batteries and the minimum performance they must deliver.
The Euro 7 standard replaces separate emissions regulations for cars and vans (Euro 6) and for trucks and buses (Euro VI). The legislation has been criticized because the same Euro 6 exhaust emission standards continue to apply to cars and vans, while the limit values for buses and trucks are lowered.
EU leaders point out that the new standard will reduce emissions from road vehicles, but at the same time help the industry make the transition to 2035, when the sale of passenger cars with internal combustion engines will be almost completely banned.
