These sanctions are determined in connection with the 12th round of sanctions against Russia adopted last December, against Russia’s profitable diamond exports.
The EU announced on Wednesday that it is including “Alrosa” and Mariničeva in the so-called black list, providing for a ban on issuing visas and freezing of assets in the EU.
Blok explains that “Alrosa”, which provides 90% of Russia’s diamond mining, represents an important part of the economic sector, which brings significant revenues to the country.
Russian diamond exports in 2022 amounted to approximately four billion dollars.
The EU ban on natural and synthetic diamonds exported from Russia entered into force on January 1. On the other hand, the ban on exporting Russian diamonds processed in third countries will be implemented until September.
