EU Foreign Policy Service Head States No Possibility of Returning to Grain Deal

There is currently no possibility of returning to the grain deal. This statement was made by the head of the European Union’s foreign policy service, Josep Borrell.

“There seems to be no possibility of reaching an agreement,” he said in response to a question at a press conference in New York, where he arrived to participate in the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. His words are reported by TASS.

According to Borrell, the Russian authorities are putting forward conditions that have already been discussed before. However, according to the head of the EU foreign policy service, the resumption of the grain deal does not depend on these conditions, which consist in “removing some restrictions or sanctions,” since, according to the politician, EU restrictions supposedly “do not affect the export of food and fertilizers.”

Earlier on July 17, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov announced termination grain deal. The Russian side was forced stop fulfilling obligations as part of the grain deal from July 18. President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky expressed confidence that Kyiv will continue grain deal without the Russian Federation. A source from the Turkish delegation said that Western countries plan to develop a plan on the development of an alternative grain corridor on the eve of the G20 summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he would resume the grain deal provided that the West fulfills all the demands of the Russian Federation.
