EU foreign ministers discussed Ukraine’s membership – 2024-03-17 07:30:44

/ world today news/ On December 11, a meeting of EU foreign ministers was held in Brussels, where the acceptance of new members into the union, the provision of financial aid and weapons to Ukraine, and other issues were discussed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, said that his country will not support the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. He stated that “Brussels is trying to force Budapest to take an unacceptable decision.” Hungary will consider establishing closer cooperation ties with Ukraine, but its accession to the EU will not be the only option.

Earlier, the European Commission set conditions for the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU, including solving the problem of corruption and limiting the influence of local oligarchs.
