EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that at a meeting with defense ministers of member countries they are exploring the situation with the production of ammunition to support Ukraine and ways to increase supplies.

Details: “We plan to study in detail what stage we are at now… and what the pace could be,” Borrell said in response to a question about the promised million ammunition for Ukraine.
He explained that this is a matter of contracts concluded and the funding available for this from member countries.
According to him, in the first direction – providing what the European armies had in their warehouses – the EU countries reached the indicators they expected. According to him, more than 300 thousand ammunition have already been transferred to Ukraine.
“Remember that European industry exports a lot. About 40% of what is produced is exported to third countries. That is, we are not talking about a lack of production capacity, the point is that these products go to other markets. Perhaps we should try to send these products to priority number one – that is, Ukraine,” said the EU’s chief diplomat.
When asked about political support for such a decision, Borrell replied that European arms manufacturers act according to the logic of market players.
“So the question is to offer a market that will be more interesting for them,” said Josep Borrell.
Let us recall that the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the EU does not have time to fulfill its plan to supply 1 million artillery shells to Ukraine until March 2024 due to the state of defense production and bureaucratic obstacles.
Earlier, the EU’s top diplomat suggested that further US aid to Ukraine would likely be reduced, so EU countries must be politically prepared against this background continue to support Ukraine.
