German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the EU’s million ammunition figure for Ukraine was “unlikely to be reached” before spring 2024, but promised improvement.

Direct speech: “This figure (of a million shells – ed.) gave rise to expectations that ultimately did not materialize. One million is not so easy to achieve for a defense industry that has transitioned from peacetime.”
Details: At the same time, Pistorius promised to improve the situation with ammunition for Ukraine in the near future.
“You can be sure that the situation will improve in the coming months. Germany alone will provide almost 200,000 ammunition. But everything takes time, and this is not a matter of political decisions or financial resources,” the head of the German Ministry of Defense emphasized.
Background:
Pistorius said last month that The EU will not achieve its goal deliver one million artillery shells to Ukraine by March 2024. At the same time, the European Commission called on EU countries put pressure on the defense industry to increase the production of shells for Ukraine. According to media reports, US is negotiating with Greece on the sale of a total of 75 thousand artillery shells from the Greek armed forces as part of efforts to replenish Ukrainian ammunition.
