Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva is confident that the EU will make a decision on providing assistance to Ukraine early next year.
He said this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, European Pravda reports.
“There is confidence. There is a political decision. The amount that we all know about, 50 billion euros, will be allocated to Ukraine. Nuances in technology. Why was this decision postponed to the informal meeting of the European Council on February 1? As far as I understand, the leaders were unable to write tools,” noted the deputy head of the OP.
According to him, the EU has several options on how to provide Ukraine with the necessary financial assistance.
“For example, from the point of view of using the general budget of the European Union. We are also talking not only about Ukraine – these are changes to the budget of the European Union. This is the first option. If it does not work out, there is another option – bilateral agreements. The work of the donor platform continues, for example where “Our officials are working together with the European Commission. I am sure that there will be a technological solution, this money will appear very soon,” Zhovkva added.
Let us recall that the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, at the end of the negotiations between EU leaders on December 14-15, said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban did not allow the EU budget decision to be adoptedwhich would include a medium-term assistance program for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros.
In this regard, the leaders agreed on an extraordinary summit dedicated to this issue, which will take place on February 1st.
