Five EU countries have prepared an appeal to the European Commission with a demand to extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain established until September 15 until the end of 2023. This was announced at a press conference by the Minister of Agriculture of Poland Robert Telus.
According to him, he conveys TASS, this is the “firm position” of Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania. These five countries, as noted by the Polish minister, want the “forbidden” list to be “elastic”. This means that these states have the right to introduce other products there.
Telus added that prior to the import ban, the influx of Ukrainian grain into Poland had destabilized the local market.
In turn, the Minister of Agriculture of Hungary, Istvan Nagy, wrote on the social network that Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia agreed to demand from the EC to extend the ban on the supply of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine to protect the interests of local farmers.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski proposed limiting EU agricultural trade with Ukraine until the end of the year.
