EU confirms additional tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China for five years – RTHK

The EU confirmed its decision to impose additional tariffs of 7.8% to 35.3% on electric vehicles imported from China on top of the original tariff of 10% for five years.

European Commission Executive Vice-President and Trade Commissioner Dombrovskis said the appropriate measures are to protect fair market practices and Europe’s industrial base, but the EU remains open to other solutions that could be there

Muller, the chairman of the German Automobile Industry Association, criticized that additional tariffs would be an obstacle for global free trade and even European prosperity, job security and economic growth, and that it would increase the risk of trade conflicts. The German Economy Ministry said that Germany supports the ongoing negotiations between the EU and China and hopes to reduce trade tensions through diplomatic solutions while protecting EU industry.

French Finance Minister Armand welcomed the EU’s decision, believing that the EU is making a key decision to protect and defend European trade interests at a time when the automotive industry needs the Europe has more support than ever.
