EU Condemns Russia’s Illegal Attack on Ukraine: Violators to Face Consequences

The EU has repeatedly stated that those aiding Russia in its illegal attack on Ukraine are violating the UN Charter and international law and will face consequences. This was stated by a spokesperson of the European Commission in response to questions related to the latest Russian airstrikes in Ukraine, reports a BTA correspondent.

We condemn the supply of arms to Russia, which uses them to kill Ukrainian civilians and destroy civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. We note that around Christmas and New Year, Russia hit mainly civilian targets in Ukraine, and this is a war crime. Possible supplies of military equipment to Russia from North Korea could be a violation of UN Security Council resolutions, the spokesman added.

We urge no one to support the Russian military attack against Ukraine, he pointed out.

The spokesman noted that one of the main objectives of EU sanctions against Russia is to limit military capabilities and revenues that can be used for military activities, especially in Ukraine.

The EU imposed export bans and took additional steps to limit Russia’s access to technologies used in military affairs, the spokesman explained.

We see that there are attempts to circumvent the sanctions, so we are constantly talking with the countries through which these attempts are made, and there is already some progress, he added.
