On the occasion of the 2021 edition of World Health Day, the representative of the European Union, Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, and the Palestinian Minister of Health, Dr Mai al-Kaila, yesterday visited Hugo Chavez Hospital to express their gratitude and appreciation to the doctors and nurses who have been on the front lines and working tirelessly to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hugo Chavez Hospital is located in the village of Turmus’aya, near Ramallah. It was the first in Palestine to admit patients with COVID-19 and also hosted the first vaccination center.
“I would like to thank our heroes in white coats, who form the Palestinian medical profession, for the remarkable efforts they make every day in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. […] The European Union is by your side and we are proud of the strong support we are giving the Palestinians during this pandemic. The EU continues to support the Palestinian health sector, in particular the ongoing vaccination campaign, in particular through the COVAX scheme. It is our common responsibility to ensure that as many people as possible are vaccinated, so that the coronavirus can be eradicated and life can resume its normal course, ”said European Union representative Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, during the ceremony.
